Mar 04, 2009. /Lesprom Network/. After taking 6 weeks of market-related downtime, International Paper's containerboard mill in Pineville, Louisiana will swing back into production, as The PaperAge informed Lesprom Network.
According to a local news report, 180 workers returned to their jobs at the mill March 2, and production is scheduled to begin March 6.
Some 4 years ago, International Paper had explored alternatives - including the possible closure - for the Pineville mill as part of its transformation plan, announced in 2005. But, according to International Paper, the mill by mid-2007 had achieved "dramatic cost improvement ...and is now among the most globally cost efficient mills in the system."
