May 26, 2008. /Lesprom.com/. Struggling Finnish fine paper maker M-real Oyj is working to raise paper prices and sees a need for structural changes in the sector in Europe, a senior company executive said, Reuters informed.
"M-real will actively continue pushing for paper price increases," M-real's graphic paper head Gregory Gettinger told a meeting of analysts and investors, according to his presentation slides for the event.
He said low-weight coated paper price increases had been implemented in Europe and there are additional increases in process, but there had been no major progress in wood-free coated paper price increases in Europe so far.
There are no major signs of softening demand in Europe so far, his slides for the meeting at Tampere in southern Finland, showed, but he added the operating environment remains challenging.
"There is a need for structural changes in the European paper industry, especially in coated fine paper," his presentation materials said.
