Jul 14, 2011. /Lesprom Network/. Nearly 20 former Amdega workers, who lost their jobs when the Darlington conservatory company collapsed, have been given new jobs by NY Timber. Eighteen of the 200 people made redundant from Amdega have been employed by NY Timber to work at its manufacturing centre at Brompton On Swale, North Yorkshire, as the company said in a press release received by Lesprom Network.
Andrew Watters, from Cockfield, Co. Durham, who has taken on the role of production manager. Andrew had been Amdega's manufacturing manager and has more than 20 years experience in the timber industry.
He said: "As a family man with two children, it was a really worrying time, facing the prospect of being unemployed and, like so many people nowadays, chasing work. It was not only a relief to get the job with NY Timber, but I also know that there is a very exciting future with a successful business which plans to grow."
NY Timber has also taken on 17 of Andrew's former colleagues who are working at Brompton in a variety of roles. NY Timber managing director Nick Kershaw said: "The decline of such a well-known company as Amdega was a real blow to this area. Despite the difficulties it had as a business, we knew that some very skilled and experienced people worked there who were ideal for our plans to further develop our roof truss plant, panelised roof systems and timber leisure buildings. We are delighted to have been able to bring in Andrew to the company and we are highly confident that our plans to expand the manufacturing side of the business will allow us to employ the others on a long-term basis."
