Apr 11, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. The installation of a Bobst Masterflex printing press at Nampak Corrugated's Wadeville facility now means that customers can enjoy the strength of corrugated packaging combined with the aesthetic appeal of high quality graphic printing.
This new offering from Nampak Corrugated forms part of Corrographics+, a newly established business category at Nampak. Nampak Cartons & Labels also contributes to the Corrographics+ offering through its Asitrade machine that offers customers laminated packaging solutions for retail primary packs and shipper designs.
"The Corrographics+ offering from Nampak Corrugated and Nampak Cartons & Labels collectively, is in line with Nampak's solutions approach to meeting the needs of customers." says Charles Bromley, Director for Nampak Africa "and we look forward to our customers gaining huge value from this new dynamic offering in packaging for their products and brands."
The Masterflex component of the Corrgraphics+ offering is expected to revolutionise the corrugated packaging business." comments Willie Wiese, MD for Nampak's Corrugated Division. "Gone are the days that corrugated packaging could be considered unattractive, as this new offering means that Nampak is now in a position to produce corrugated packaging that looks great."
Nampak Corrugated expects its Masterflex offering to be well received by a variety of industries. For example, the wine and liquor industry can now utilise cartons that will look attractive in store, point-of-sale displays are able to successfully combine the necessary strength with high quality graphics and the high end corrugated display market now has more option in terms of packaging.
H.L. Hall and Sons, one of South Africa's oldest commercial farming operations and currently a leading exporter of avocados, is the first company in SA that has made use of the Masterflex offering. "Fruit presentation is critical, so it's important to us that carton quality matches our fruit quality." comments Robbie Taylor, Exports Director at H.L. Hall and Sons. "Nampak has successfully met our stringent standards with photographic
resolution printing on a superior waxed board."
"Masterflex is able to offer our customer a number of benefits." continues Wiese "short lead times, cost effective print solutions, speed to market, as well as the choice of short or long runs."
This innovative investment by Nampak Corrugated will provide clients the opportunity of building brand identity and shelf shout where the options were very limited before. This is the result of the striking visual appeal now possible on packaging that was previously considered somewhat unappealing.
The Masterflex's ability to print seven colours or six colours plus a varnish allows for a great deal of creative flexibility. This combined with the machine's ability to print on a variety of substrates in different sizes means that a packaging solution can be produced in line with the customer's specific requirements.
At the official launches of the Masterflex component of Corrographics+ in Johannesburg and Cape Town during March 2005, Nampak Corrugated used the analogy of 'the diamond in the rough'. The Masterflex is truly this, as it is able to offer something beautiful in a market category where aesthetic appeal did not feature strongly before.
A second Masterflex will be in production at Nampak Corrugated's Epping facility in Cape Town in September 2005.
