Oct 11, 2004. /Lesprom Network/. Neusiedler, as an international Group, takes both its internal and external responsibilities very seriously. One of Neusiedler's key corporate goals is to consistently minimise the environmental impact of all its operations. An important step towards achieving this is the Group-wide implementation of the environmental management system ISO 14001.
Neusiedler started to establish environmental management systems of international standards at an early stage, with the Theresienthal site in Austria being certified in accordance with ISO 14001 in 1995. The Austrian Kematen site was then certified in 2001, followed by the certification of the two Hungarian mills, Szolnok and Dunaújváros, in 2002. The Hadera site had already been certified in accordance with ISO 14001 at the time of its acquisition in 1999. The same is true for the latest additions to the Neusiedler Group, the South African Merebank and Richards Bay plants, which were ISO 14001 certified in 2000.
In 2003, the activities of Neusiedler AG itself, the operative holding company, were certified. The certification process was completed in 2004 with the Slovakian Ruzomberok and Russian Syktyvkar sites being certified in June and September respectively. The wide range of activities performed at the certified plants, which include paper and pulp production, made certification a substantial undertaking which took around 1.5 years to complete at each operation.
The newly-completed certification of the entire Neusiedler Group is part of a long-term mission to optimise all sites and underlines Neusiedler's commitment to develop its plants into some of the world's most advanced paper and pulp mills.
The certification is also an important milestone in the 'Pushing The Limits' process. With this corporate vision, Neusiedler is pursuing its clearly-defined goals of becoming the world leader in its sector and setting the benchmarks for the competition by 2006.'Pushing The Limits' also reflects the Mondi Group's commitment to sustainability, which relates above all to the areas of environmental excellence, innovation and corporate social responsibility.
