Sep 18, 2008. /Lesprom.com/. Wisconsin’s loss is Maryland’s gain as NewPage Corp. prepares to move workers from a closed paper mill in the Midwest to its plant in Allegany County, Stevenspointjournal.com reported.
The Ohio-based company says some of the employees from Kimberly, Wisconsin, will be transferred to fill job openings in Luke.
NewPage Vice President Gary Curtis says that unlike the Kimberly mill, the Luke operation makes its own pulp, which holds down costs.
He says the Luke mill and its 970 workers are expected to play a vital role in helping NewPage remain the industry leader in the coated paper market.
