Apr 25, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. The Plum Creek Foundation has awarded an $8,000 grant to Gathering Waters Conservancy, the statewide service center for Wisconsin’s 55 non-profit land trusts. The Conservancy assists land trusts, landowners and communities in their efforts to protect Wisconsin’s land and water resources. The grant will be used to fund four training workshops aimed at building the capabilities of land trusts in Northern Wisconsin and training professional advisors, appraisers and attorneys on land conservation techniques. “This is an area rich in natural resources – from wild lakes, pristine forests and unique wetlands to spectacular bluffs and beaches on Lake Superior,” said Vicki Elkin, executive director. “Plum Creek’s support will make it possible for Gathering Waters Conservancy to offer these educational workshops, which will provide the participants with the skills, information and resources they need to increase the pace of conservation in this special region of our state.” The mission of the Plum Creek Foundation is to provide philanthropic contributions to support and improve the general welfare of life in the communities that Plum Creek serves. The Foundation board meets quarterly to review applications submitted from organizations in the company’s operating communities.
