Aug 22, 2008. /Lesprom.com/. The latest casualty of the residential real estate market is one of Cincinnati’s oldest and largest independent lumber stores, Riemeier Lumber Co, Business Courier of Cincinnati reported.
National City Bank took over the business in April and will liquidate the 83-year-old family-owned operation. Company executives would not comment on details of the dissolution but Dan Mai, who handles marketing for Riemeier, confirmed that it would close. No time frame was provided at press time.
The last year that revenue information was available for the company was 2000, when it posted sales of $42 million.
Industry veterans blame the company’s demise on the slow home-building market, the increase in cost of materials and competition from national home supply companies like Lowe’s, Home Depot and Contractors Warehouse.
