Jun 02, 2011. /Lesprom Network/. Södra Timber Kinda is to become a 100% pine sawmill. To maximise the efficiency of Kinda's initiative on pine production, Södra Timber's board of directors gave the go-ahead to a development plan to rebuild and modernise the sawmill to accommodate a pine production of approximately 225,000 cubic metres. The investment package should be completed by the summer of 2012, as the company said in a press release received by Lesprom Network. Södra Timber continually reviews production at its sawmills in order to find ways to maximise outturn and optimise its investment resources and its offer. The end-objective is to maximise the purchasing power of the raw material. “After having reviewed our production structure in Småland and Östergötland this winter, we made the decision to close down the Åtvidaberg sawmill. This has now been carried out. We have also evaluated a number of possible ways forward for Södra Timber Kinda," says Peter Nilsson, President of Södra Timber. Södra Timber sees a need and an opportunity for developing and capitalising on the higher quality of the pine timber in the area. With its band saws, Södra Timber Kinda is ideally suited to this kind of production. Today Kinda sawmill processes 50% spruce and 50% pine.
