Jun 04, 2012. /Lesprom Network/. SCA BioNorr is now supplementing its production of fuel pellets by adding pellets for stall bedding and horsekeeping to its range. SCA BioNorr has developed a bedding material for horses and horse owners – stall bedding pellets. The pellets are manufactured from pure sawdust and form an effective bedding product that, compared with such materials as planer shavings, save both time and space and improve the finances of horse owners, as the company said in a press release received by Lesprom Network. The number of stables and horses are growing. For many, it has become difficult and more expensive to acquire planer shavings, which are usually used as bedding in horse boxes. “We could see that a demand existed and thought about how we could develop a suitable product for stables,” says Stefan Rönnqvist, Marketing Manager at SCA BioNorr. “In fact, the product’s properties would have to be in direct contrast to the fuel pellets we make. Fuel pellets are supposed to effectively stay together, while stall bedding pellets should be easy to break up and spread out. Nevertheless, we found a good solution and successfully developed stall bedding pellets that are easy to handle and provide good comfort in the horsebox.” Stall bedding pellets are handled and spread out as pellets. When moisture is added to the pellets, they expand to about twice their size, quickly disintegrate into sawdust and provide a soft but stable and dust-free bedding surface in the horsebox. The bedding product has also demonstrated highly positive results for horses previously suffering from pressure sores. Stall bedding pellets are available for delivery throughout the Swedish mainland.
