The annual award program recognizes only 100 organizations worldwide that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology. The 2008 awards recognize innovative executives and organizations that use information technology effectively to create business value. Sappi is being honored for an initiative in which the company developed an integrated knowledge management system to control the more than $600 million spent on raw materials. The solution incorporated data from various systems including plant floor control, quality and mill execution, which resulted in a single view of costs and input material usage, officials said.
