Nov 25, 2010. /Lesprom Network/. Setra is implementing production cutbacks in order to adjust to the prevailing market situation. The sawmills that will be affected in the first place are Vimmerby, Hasselfors, Heby, Nyby and Malå. Solutions will be local. Some sawmills will stop production entirely during certain weeks, others will cut production by reducing the number of shifts, as the company said in a press release received by Lesprom Network.
“A general situation with excess supplies of sawn timber, a seasonally tougher market situation and the negative effects on exports of an increasingly strong Swedish krona, are the underlying reasons why Setra is now reducing its production volumes,” says Börje Bengtsson, President and CEO of Setra.
“The market situation is difficult in the short term and we are monitoring developments with care. In order to adjust our production to the prevailing market situation we will implement a number of production cutbacks during the period December-January,” says Bengtsson. “Additional measures cannot be ruled out.”
