Aug 25, 2014. /Lesprom Network/. The OSB manufacturer SmartPly Europe Ltd. – part of the business division Coillte Panel Products (CPP) of the Irish state forestry organization Coillte – has decided to replace its multi-daylight plant at the Waterford location, Ireland, as the company said in the press release received by Lesprom Network.

The company has placed an order with the machine and plant manufacturer Siempelkamp for a forming and press line including a continuous ContiRoll® press as well as numerous finishing line machines.

The scope of supply for SmartPly includes the materials handling equipment downstream from the resin application system, the cooling and stacking line, a high-stack storage system as well as the cut-to-size and packing line.

The core of the plant is the continuous forming and press line including a ContiRoll® press which can be flexibly adjusted to manufacture boards with different widths. Furthermore, Siempelkamp will be responsible for the installa-tion and its supervision, the startup and the acceptance test. The steel structure for the plant will be managed by both, customer and plant supplier, together.

The upgrade of the existing infrastructure at SmartPly's Waterford location is part of a Euro 59 million investment made by CPP. Furthermore, a "Panel Products Innovation Centre" will be developed on the current site. SmartPly is excited to upgrade its product portfolio with new innovations and to enter the market with sustainable special OSB solutions. To date the Irish company has manufactured OSB for various applications including floor coverings, interior construction, furniture and packaging. A large share of the company's products is exported.

The OSB plant in Waterford has manufactured wood-based panels from locally grown sus-tainable forest resources from the South and East of Ireland. The current nominal yearly plant capacity is 350,000 cubic metres and with the new continuous line, could be increased further depending on market requirements. This increase in capacity allows the customer the eco-nomical manufacture of OSB featuring new sizes and thicknesses suited to the European market. Full capacity is expected to be reached in 2016.
