Aug 30, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. Spanish pulp and paper manufacturing group Empresa Nacional de Celulosa SA (ENCE) plans to buy 80 000 hectares of forests in the northern Spanish region of Asturias in order to boost supply, La Bolsa reported citing sources from the Spanish trade union SOMA-FIA-UGT. At present, ENCE owns some 203 000 hectares of forests, of which eucalyptus globulus represents some 60%. The company's forests account for 20% of the ENCE supply in Spain, but ENCE considers increasing their share in order to meet increasing demand. ENCE also plans to double its environment and renewable energy business within the next three years that currently contributes 13% to ENCE revenue. ENCE is an Iberian and American integral wood-transforming forest company. ENCE is the number one owner of eucalypt timberland in Europe as well as being the leading producer in Europe and number two in the world of eucalyptus-based pulp.
