Feb 08, 2008. /Lesprom.com/. The largest U.S. office supplies retailer, Staples, said today that it ceased doing business with Asia Pulp & Paper late last month because of environmental concerns, according to a Reuters news report.
Paper from Asia Pulp & Paper made up about 5% of Staples' paper products. Staples said it severed ties with Asia Pulp & Paper because there was no indication that it was making strides to protect the environment.
Asia Pulp & Paper produces bleached hardwood pulp and a wide range of paper and packaging products. With current combined pulp, paper and packaging grades capacity of over 7 million tonnes in Indonesia, it ranks number one in Asia, excluding Japan.
