Jul 17, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. Swedish packaging group Tetra Pak AB has evacuated 12 employees from Beirut, Dagens Industri reported. Tetra Pak has a sales office with 25 employees in Beirut, of whom 12 non-local residents that were actually evacuated. The situation in the Middle East is utterly uncertain, therefore Tetra Pak evacuated its expatriates with their families on a bus to Amman, the capital of neighbouring Jordan, said Jorgen Haglind, senior vice president communications. Evacuation was prompted by security reasons but the primary reason was the languishing supplies of drinking water and food, Mr. Haglind added. Nevertheless, Tetra Pak's office in Beirut will be held open. The Swedish government started on July 16, 2006 the evacuation of all Swedish nationals from Lebanon. According to the ministry of foreign affairs there are about 4 000 Swedes in the country who will be carried on buses to Syria and from there on boats to Cyprus on July 17, 2006 at the earliest.
