Jul 07, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. The Timber Research and Development Association (TRADA) exceeded its budget target for 2005 and recorded a surplus of more than GBP 47 000 ($86 477), chairman Richard Burbidge OBE, reported to the Association's AGM on 6 July.
“Sound financial management is at the heart of every successful organization and the board is ever mindful of the need to ensure that TRADA's finances are sustainable in the long-term. However, it is equally important that high levels of activity and service are maintained and developed, to meet the needs of members and progress towards TRADA's longer-term goals. The 2005 budget set out to do this and also to deliver a modest trading surplus and this it has done most admirably.”
The enhanced profile of TRADA has also generated significant growth in membership. More than 350 new members joined in 2005 and this trend is continuing. “Yet keeping existing members happy is a fundamental priority and the partnership with TRADA Technology for maintaining and delivering membership services ensures that this requirement is met,” Mr. Burbidge added.
With this in mind, the board initiated a strategic review to identify possible areas for investment to extend the range of services and benefits to members. The outcome is that TRADA will appoint a building regulations consultant to develop a major new service towards the end of 2006. TRADA will thus take a proactive role in communicating to members planned and actual changes in regulations and standards and any other significant initiatives that affect timber specification.
