Oct 23, 2008. /Lesprom.com/. Unite is shocked and dismayed at an announcement made by International Paper that the future of its paper mill in Invervurie, Scotland is "at risk", PRNewswire reported. The site employs over 400 highly skilled workers and if the proposed closure goes ahead it will be a devastating blow to the local economy as it is the biggest employer in the area. Tony Burke, Unite Assistant General Secretary, said: "Our first concern is for our members and their families at the mill. This is another body-blow to the papermaking industry in Scotland and to manufacturing throughout the UK. We are in direct discussions with our shop stewards at the mill and will be looking at all options to try to save the mill and keep it in production".
