Mar 11, 2009. /Lesprom Network/. Votorantim Celulose e Papel (VCP) reported it had acquired 28% of the capital stock of Aracruz Celulose from the Safra family. With this acquisition, VCP now owns controlling interest of Aracruz, opening up the way for the creation of a Brazilian global leader of the pulp and paper sector, as Aracruz informed Lesprom Network. The company that will result from the integration of Aracruz and VCP will have a productive capacity of nearly 6 million tons of pulp per year, with a total of more than 1 million hectares of forestlands - of which nearly one half are set aside for permanent preservation - in six different Brazilian states (Espírito Santo, Bahia, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul). With global scale and presence, a 37% share of the eucalyptus pulp market, 22% of the hardwood market and 12% of the world pulp market, the company plans to double its size by 2020, focusing on high return projects that are in line with the best sustainability practices.
