Mar 11, 2014. /Lesprom Network/. WWF-Indonesia and
ASMINDO (Furniture Industry and Handicraft
Association of Indonesia) formed a partnership aimed at “sustainable production
and consumption as best practice in forest product markets, safeguarding forest
value and supporting poverty reduction”, as ITTO reported.
The objective is to
expand capacity building in the small and medium sized wood processing
enterprises to enable their ability to conform to Indonesia’s timber legality assurance
system and, through this, to emphasise the commercial link between sustainable
wood product manufacture and market demand.
Through this partnership,
says the press release, “stakeholders are expected to increase their technical capacity
in respect of legality and strengthen the Timber Legality
Verification System (SVLK) implementation in Indonesia”.
