Feb 25, 2009. /Lesprom Network/. Weyerhaeuser Co. has laid off 67 employees at its Dallas mill in Oregon, as Statesman Journal informed Lesprom Network. Greg Miller, a Weyerhaeuser spokesman, said the Dallas plant has been shutdown effective immediately. The layoffs affect about half of the local mill’s workforce, he said.
Workers subject to the layoffs will continue to receive pay and benefits at least through April 24, according to a notification Weyerhaeuser is required to make to economic development officials.
The Dallas mill produces dimensional lumber, ranging from 2-by-4s to 4-by-8s. Company officials blamed the layoffs on the weak economy and reduced demand for lumber.
