Weyerhaeuser’s North Louisiana Timberlands recognize excellence among contract logging operations

Nov 10, 2004. /Lesprom Network/. Weyerhaeuser Company’s North Louisiana Timberlands region recognized area logging operations with safety and performance awards at a recent appreciation dinner.
Award winners included Benny C. Martin Logging of Friendship, Overall Safety award; Howard Allen Logging of Downsville, Overall Logging Contractor award; and Don Tant Logging of Georgetown, Overall Thinning Contractor award.
More than 120 people, including nearly 60 logging crews, attended the Oct. 26 dinner at the Minden Civic Center.
«We wanted to recognize the dedication and hard work of these men who work with Weyerhaeuser in the woods each day,» said Ray Armstrong, logging and marketing manager for Weyerhaeuser’s North Louisiana Timberlands region. Crews were awarded for safety and the overall quality of their timber harvesting work.
Weyerhaeuser’s Contractor Management System award winners were:
Overall Safety Award to Benny C. Martin Logging of Friendship, recognized for transportation and in-woods safety.
Overall Logging Contractor Award to Howard Allen Logging of Downsville, and
Overall Thinning Contractor Award to Don Tant Logging, Royse Tant, foreman, of Georgetown.
The overall logging and thinning awards were determined by truck weights, in-process audits, exit audits and transportation audits, with emphasis on meeting safety and environmental standards.
Weyerhaeuser’s North Louisiana Timberlands region manages more than 730,000 acres of timberland, all certified to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. Among SFI standards for sound forest and environmental management are guidelines for protecting water and soil quality during timber harvesting.
In Louisiana, Weyerhaeuser has almost 2,000 employees and manages more than one million acres of timberlands in the state, all certified to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative™.
Weyerhaeuser’s Louisiana operations include the Red River linerboard mill at Campti, plywood and lumber operations at Dodson and Zwolle, a sawmill at Taylor, an oriented strandboard (OSB) operation at Arcadia, Trus Joist™ operations at Natchitoches and Simsboro, a particleboard mill at Simsboro, a packaging operation at Shreveport, a lumber mill at Holden, Tree Improvement Centers at Isabel and Taylor and timberlands offices at Taylor, Natchitoches, Livingston and Dodson.
