UGRA, SMOLENSK REGION, October 29, 2001. /RIA Novosti correspondent Vladimir KOROLYOV/-- A new woodworking production complex, Ugraexportles, has been put into operation in the Ugra district (Smolensk region).
According to Vladimir Kudryavtsev, head of the district administration, the new production complex has been revived over several months on the ruins of the bankrupt and torn down Ugra woodworking plant. The first sawmill, which will produce sawn timber meeting modern building requirements, has been commissioned.
Ugraexportles is not a local project. The enterprise's leadership included lumbering in its nearest plans and, as is seen from its name, export of its products which are eagerly waited for in Kaliningrad (Russia's western enclave on the Baltic coast). As Kudryavtsev noted, Dutch businessmen were also present at the opening ceremony.
