SINGAPORE, Sept. 21, 2001 (paperloop.com) - September list prices for northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) and eucalyptus have both been pushed up $10/tonne by suppliers in China and Korea. But so far, the move has only had a negative impact on the markets. Well-stocked spot traders and paper mills have cut back their pulp purchases and shrinking trading volumes have forced Korean traders to slash eucalyptus prices. NBSK spot prices have dropped $10/tonne at the high end of the range and are now trading at $390-400/tonne in the Chinese and Korean markets. Radiata pine prices are also $10/tonne lower at the upper end of the spot price range, trading at $370-380/tonne. List prices for Brazilian eucalyptus have risen $10/tonne to $380/tonne. But spot prices have fallen $10/tonne to $370-380/tonne in China, and dropped even further by $20/tonne to $360-370/tonne in Korea. Indonesian plantation-grown acacia is trading at the same levels as Indonesian mixed tropical hardwood at $360-370/tonne, which is unchanged from previous prices.
