Czech Lesy CR gross profit soars 120% year-on-year in 2005

The gross profit of Czech state-run forestry company Lesy Ceske Republiky soared 120% year-on-year to CZK 1.12 billion ($47 million) in 2005, according to preliminary results, the company's CEO Vladimir Blahuta said. The considerable profit improvement was mainly attributed to the company's changed business policy and the launch of a restructuring programme and cost-cutting measures.
At the end of December 2005, Lesy CR announced it expected 2005 net profit to reach CZK 800 million ($33.6 million). Lesy CR forecast a 70% year-on-year increase in its 2005 net profit. The company expected its revenue to rise 31% to CZK 6.1 billion ($256 million) and timber output to reach 7.67 million cubic meters in 2005, slightly higher than in 2004.
Lesy CR manages almost half of the total forest area in the Czech Republic and employs more than 3 400 persons.
