Finnish forestry group Metsaliitto posted a net profit of 124.3 mln euro ($134.1 mln) for 2002, compared to 39.9 mln euro ($43 mln) for 2001. Metsaliitto increased its operating profit to 413.5 mln euro ($446 mln) from 386.5 mln euro ($416.9 mln). The group's turnover totalled 8.868 bln euro ($9.566 bln), against 8.773 bln euro ($9.463 bln). Metsaliitto produced 2.2 million cu m of sawn timber, 3.66 million tonnes of paper and 679,000 tonnes of cardboard, against 2.04 million cu m of sawn timber, 3.68 million tonnes of paper and 665,000 tonnes of cardboard. The group's chemical pulp output totalled 3.44 million tonnes, compared to 3.08 million tonnes. Metsaliitto group includes paper maker M-real, pulp maker Metsa Botnia and forest industry company Finnforest.
