Industrial growth in Russia
Addressing a government's session, vice-premier Ilya Klebanov said, in particular, that the output of engineering and metal products would grow by 8 percent this year, of chemical and petrochemical products - by 6 percent, of light industry products - by 5 percent, and the output in the lumber and woodworking industries - by 2 percent.
MOSCOW, December 27, 2001 /from RIA Novosti correspondent Natalia Shmonova/ -- Annual industrial growth in Russia will constitute 5.5 percent this year.
Addressing a government's session, vice-premier Ilya Klebanov said, in particular, that the output of engineering and metal products would grow by 8 percent this year, of chemical and petrochemical products - by 6 percent, of light industry products - by 5 percent, and the output in the lumber and woodworking industries - by 2 percent.
Apart from this, Klebanov stressed that growth in the defence-industry complex would constitute 115 percent, and an even greater increase (118 percent) was expected in the production of military hardware. Klebanov also said that Russian exports of weapons would amount to 4.4 billion dollars this year.
Ilya Klebanov pointed out that serious progress was made in tank-building and pipe production. Thus, the manufacture of big-diameter pipes was launched in Nizhni Tagil (Southern Urals) this year.
Klebanov also pointed to positive changes which occurred in the nuclear power industry and civil aviation in 2001. He stressed that in future the government would ensure state orders for enterprises of the defence industry complex.
