In January of this year, 171,100 cubic meters of sawn timber were exported from Latvia, which is 29% down from January when 221,100 cubic meters were exported, reported the Agriculture Ministry's Forestry Department. Sawn timber for LVL 18.4 million ($33.935 million) was exported or LVL 2.6 million ($4.7 million) less than in January of 2004, when timber for LVL 21 million ($38.7 million) was exported. Timber was exported from Latvia mainly to England, Ireland, Germany, the U.S. and Japan. The total worth of exported wood production in January of this year stood at LVL 57,413,800 ($105.890 million). Compared with January of 2004, when total value of exported wood was LVL 57,414,700 ($105.892 million) this year wood export dropped by LVL 900 ($1,658). In January, total worth of wood product import in Latvia stood at LVL 19,671,500 ($36,207,438), which is almost by LVL 3.2 million ($5.889 million) up from January of 2004, when import of wood reached LVL 16,493,900 ($30.358 million).
