Aug 07, 2008. /Lesprom.com/. Cultivation of forests is the answer to the world's carbon problems, according to the Australian forestry industry. The National Association of Forest Industries (NAFI) predicts Australia would provide 81 million tonnes of CO2 abatement each year with suitable investment in forestry. NAFI chief executive Allan Hansard said the group was hopeful that government support would lead to increased growth. If this were to happen, he added, it could lead "to a contribution of much more than 20pc (of carbon abatements), providing more benefits to Australians and the environment." According to the Great Britain Forestry Commission, establishment of woodland can improve the aesthetic appearance of derelict land as well as helping to combat climate change. Forestry investment and the benefits of increasing the amount of woodland in the UK is currently the subject of much investigation by the group.
