Feb 06, 2004. /Lesprom Network/.Russian Irkutsk customs will introduce bar code for round timber, Siberian news agency quoting acting customs director Georgi Frolov. The step followed in order to increase customs control over timber exports. The new bar code is supposed to include complete information on the timber lot on its way from the forestry to the customs inspector, executing the check on the following parameters: place of felling, diameter, type and place of loading. The new bar code is intended to eliminate the possibility of fraud and to reduce the time of check, which is essential in order to fulfill the new customs legislation, which envisages a 3-days term for customs checks. Presently in case a declaration fraud is registered, the timber lot is reloaded in order to identify the type and volume. The new bar code will allow to obtain the necessary information by means of a scanner, which will reduce time and financial expense, Georgi Frolov said. The new bar code will facilitate the work of customs officials who have to check a large number of cargoes in a limited period of time. Presently customs officials are designing the necessary check procedures and documentation. Certain verification will follow in order to check the conformity with the legislation in force. The introduction of the new bar code is currently agreed with the Irkutsk region administration.
