May 29, 2008. /Lesprom.com/. As the main paper sponsor for drupa 2008 UPM is taking the responsibility to look out for recycling the paper during the exhibition. UPM has agreed to recycle all printing paper waste generated during drupa and will work in close cooperation with Remondis, a waste management company.
During the fair, printed and unprinted waste paper will be collected to containers and transported to Remondis' baling facility in Langenfeld, Düsseldorf, Germany. After baling, the bales will be transported to various UPM mills to be used as valuable raw material in UPM's paper production.
"The drupa 2008 partnership with Remondis is natural from our point of view since they are the local service provider at Messe Düsseldorf for general waste management. Their infrastructure allows to collect, handle, transport and produce bales according to the UPM vision of Closed Loop Recycling", says Jan Sillman, VP, UPM, RCP Resource Management.
UPM is one of the largest users of recovered paper for graphic papers worldwide. Recovered paper is used mainly for the production of newsprint and SC paper, but also for LWC and other printing paper grades. UPM mills in France, Germany and UK are producing paper from 100 % recovered paper.
