U.S. western lumber production through May totaled 4.747 billion board feet, up 11.6% from the first five months of 2009, according to the Western Wood Products Association. Production in the Coast region was up 14.6%, while the Inland region rose 11.4%. Output in the California Redwood region was down 24.1% through May this year. May production in the West totaled 875 million board feet, down 15.0% from April but 10.7% higher than the May 2009 total, as Random Lengths reported.
