The average rate for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage reached 6.49% as of July 9, up from 6.43% a week earlier and below the 6.72% recorded in the same period last year, according to Freddie Mac.
The average rate for a 15-year fixed-rate mortgage rose to 5.82% from 5.79% a week earlier. A year earlier, the average 15-year fixed-rate mortgage stood at 5.86%.
The latest survey shows both benchmark mortgage rates increased slightly from the previous week while remaining below the levels recorded a year ago.
