U.S. packaging papers and specialty packaging shipments increased 7% in March 2026 compared to March 2025. Year-to-date shipments for the first three months of 2026 rose 3% relative to the same period in 2025, according to the American Forest & Paper Association.
Unbleached packaging paper shipments in March reached their highest level in over two years, with an operating rate exceeding 90%. Bleached packaging papers also recorded a monthly gain, increasing 5.5% from March 2025, though year-to-date figures showed a decline. Total inventories fell to their lowest level in 13 months.
