Feb 02, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. The goal of increasing both quality and capacity of the existing Rolltec winder of PM 4 was successfully achieved. The winder can now not only follow the PM without any problems, but it even has reserve capacity for the planned speed increase on the PM. The rebuild package included: - Exchange of the rubber-covered winder drum 1 with a winder drum 1 with Voith ElaGrip coating. - Installation of winder drum 1 as suction roll for reliable web threading during turnup. - Exchange of the segmented rider roll (80 mm wide segments) with a split rider roll with ElaLoad coating. - Optimization of the web run systems and of the drives. Through the use of winder drum 1 with ElaGrip coating, the winding defects (creping folds, bursts), which led to permanent complaints, were fully eliminated. In addition, because of the good winding characteristics of the Voith special winder drum coating and the new rider roll, the speed could be raised for all grades (LWC, newsprint, coating base paper) on average by over 20% from 2 200 to 2 700 m/min. At the same time, through these measures, it was possible to eliminate the vibrations that occurred previously. All in all, through the rebuild of the aforementioned components in conjunction with the optimization of the running data, the number of sheet breaks was significantly reduced. The design of the winder drum as a suction roll now enables reliable web threading, with the result that the turnup time has been reduced by 30%. The technical and technological improvements at the winder have, therefore, ensured that the reject costs could be reduced by over 60%. The customer confirmed that the rebuild was extremely successful as all set goals were fully achieved. With its cutting edge equipment, Perlen's annual output reaches approximately 300 000 metric tonnes of newsprint and magazine papers. Voith Paper is a division of the Voith Group and one of the leading partners to the paper industry. More than one third of the world's paper production is produced on Voith Paper machines.
