Sofidel has completed a major rebuild of its PM1 tissue machine at the Roanne mill in France, a project designed to improve production efficiency and reduce the plant's environmental footprint, according to Toscotec.

The comprehensive rebuild incorporates a new TT SYD Steel Yankee Dryer paired with a TT NextPress shoe press in the dry section to optimize dewatering and increase post-press dryness. The upgrade also includes new hoods, a steam and condensate system, and an air system featuring a TT Swing System for operational flexibility. In the wet end, the machine features a new TT Headbox for the existing twin wire configuration, while the reel section has been replaced with a TT Reel L hydraulic pope reel. A new TT Brain distributed control system (DCS) automates and integrates machine performance.

The rebuilt line will produce tissue for Sofidel's consumer and away-from-home product ranges. The modernization is integrated with the mill's existing operations, with the updated PM1 line resuming production.

The project is estimated to reduce the plant's CO₂ emissions by approximately 1,200 tons annually.

Sofidel, a global tissue paper manufacturer, operates the Roanne mill as part of its production network in France.
