Several hours after the police started investigation into the activity of the company, a search warrant was issued in accordance with the criminal case initiated by articles 137, 138 of Russian criminal code, ‘Intrusion in private life of citizens’. Primary investigators Artem Rasohin and Pavel Chernnyaev seized the company’s financial and commercial documents.
Before the main search started, Irish Interpulp Trading company (Ilim Pulp affiliated company and trader with an office in Saint-Petersburg) employee Dmitri Bovichev was detained by the police. He was deprived of personal identification documents, and after that a police officer signed a warrant to search his private vehicle, VAZ-2108 justifying the search as ‘urgent investigational activity’.
According to Ilim Pulp public-affairs chief Elena Konnova: ‘The seizure of financial and commercial documents in line with made up criminal cases is another pressure instrument that Oleg Deripaska’s Basic Element group used against Ilim Pulp. This is not the first time similar measures were implemented against Ilim Pulp. The company assures its partners and counteragents that the incident will not affect the steady work of Ilim Pulp-owned numerous enterprises and timely supplies’.
