Russian Kotlasky pulp and paper enterprise (owned by Ilim Pulp) launched an automatic quick-response control system to monitor sulfate bleached pulp production, Ilim Pulp spokesperson told Lesprom.ru. The cost of the project is estimated at $900 thousand. The equipment supplied was produced by Russian Rakurs enterprise with the key components by Siemens. Wonderware Archestra software was used within the project. The distributed architecture system allows the operators to install information collecting equipment directly in the production workshops, that provide the real-time information to the server. The system allows to control raw materials, power and chemicals usage. Apart from executing the production control, the new system provides data archives and is connected to the Prokont system currently in use, sued for overall production control. Kotlassky is one of the major enterprise producing various species of pulp, printing and bag paper, tare cardboard, paper bags, hardboard. Presently the enterprise accounts for 15% of national pulp and 20% of cardboard production.
